The 21st Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Society of Hypertension (ESH) will be held at MIC – Milan Convention Center from Milan, Italy between June 17-20, 2011.
The scientific programme will continue the tradition of the annual ESH meetings. This is because in Europe research on hypertension and cardiovascular prevention is extremely productive (more than 1800 abstracts were received for the 2010 ESH meeting in Oslo), a large portion of the programme will be devoted to oral and poster presentations of original research. Presentations will be selected from the abstracts submitted by the participants, based on the assessment of several expert reviewers per abstract.
The programme will also include: 1) State-of-the-Art lectures, debates and round tables to complement presentations of original research with views on topics of basic and clinical interest from worldwide authorities in hypertension and cardiovascular disease 2) Satellite Symposia organized by Industry, which will be held on the days before, during and after the main meeting to allow more specific information on new antihypertensive and cardiovascular treatments to be presented and discussed 3) Breakfast Workshops, topical workshops and scientific sessions organized by the Working Groups of ESH and 4) Teaching Sessions focused on aspects of more practical interest aimed at physicians interested in becoming European Hypertension Specialists as well as the Centers of Excellence of ESH. Several "How-to", "Meet the Expert" and "Clinical Cases" sessions will also be included in the programme using a format that will allow attendees to interact with the experts. This will provide a full update on the current range and level of European research in this vital area of medicine, also including, as always, significant contributions from extra-European countries. It will also allow us to have a large number of educational activities in line with the ESH mission and goals.
The programme will be under the responsibility of the Scientific Council of ESH and the meeting will have the patronage of the Italian Society of Hypertension, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the Istituto Auxologico Italiano and the Municipality of the City of Milan. The meeting will be held at the Congress Center of Milan City Fair. The Center has further improved its facilities which can optimally accommodate the large number of participants and the highly diversified scientific programme that characterise the European Hypertension Meetings, including a suitable exhibition space for Industry. The City Fair is also well connected to downtown Milan, which is only few metro stops away.
As always in the past, ESH will provide accommodation grants to help attendance of young investigators who may find covering expenses for participation in the meeting difficult. Lower registration fees have also been planned for members of ESH.
As for the 2010 meeting, the 2011 ESH meeting will apply for official credits from EBAC and UEMS (European Union of Medical Specialists) in which ESH has an official representative. Credits will be also granted by ESH itself with regard to European Specialist qualification.
