The 10th World Congress of Perinatal Medicine will take place between 8 and 11 November 2011 at Conrad Resort & Casino Punta del Este from Punta del Este, Uruguay.
The first recording of human uterus activity during labour was obtained by Roberto Caldeyro-Barcia and Hermogenes Alvarez in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1947. This proved the starting point for a major scientific field of research and development, which included the foundation of modern Perinatal Medicine. Today, Perinatal Medicine is a leading scientific specialty that has and will continue to contribute to the health of mothers, children and families worldwide.
The event will be organized jointly by AUPER - the Uruguayan Society of Perinatology and the Uruguayan Societies of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynecology, with the collaboration of the Perinatology Societies of Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.
The change of continent for this Congress should add new and different lights to the world perinatal community, as the congresses from 2005 to 2009 are hosted by European countries. In 2011, the perinatal community will look south, to one of the places that gave birth to Perinatal Medicine.
