33rd Congress of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO)

Oncology Medical Congress
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
Date: 12 - 16 September 2008

We are at a crucial moment in our fight against cancer. Recent advances in all areas of research are bringing a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms of cancer, providing new and improved tools for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cancer types

The ESMO meeting in Stockholm will continue to expand its role as the premier European congress in Oncology and will serve as the forum to present and discuss these advances. Our society is increasingly engaged in the promotion of the practice of medical oncology, in providing medical education to medical oncologists and healthcare professionals, and fostering the careers of young medical oncologists.

Expect the ESMO meeting in Stockholm to be a venue for interdisciplinary interaction, a teaching ground, and a place to discuss critical issues for European oncology such as cancer research in Europe, the training of young oncologists and better integration of medical oncology with other specialties.

Main topics: Integration of targeted therapies with radiation; Breast cancer; Chest tumors; Gynecological cancers; Genitourinary tumors; Sarcoma, melanoma and rare tumors; Gastrointestinal tumors.

Stockholm is a beautiful city built on several islands connected by bridges. The Old Town, “Gamla stan”, dates back to the 12th century with its merchant houses from Hanseatic times. The Royal Palace, built on the foundations of a mid 13-Century castle, is also located in this area.
